Safety schools. It’s the “just in case” school we apply to. The one we don’t give too much thought to because we don’t actually think we’ll have to go there. Things happen though and suddenly the school that was at the bottom of our list is now the school you’re sending you deposit to. Now it can be hard to get excited for a school that wasn’t your first, second, or even third choice. Trust me I’ve been there. Here are some ways to get excited for your safety school.
Re-Tour the Campus
A lot of people do the same thing when it comes to touring their safety school. They go, but they don’t pay very much attention. Yes you listen to all the speeches and check out the dorms and library, but you to take time to look at the little things. If it’s possible, go re-tour the campus. While you’re there, check out everything! Look at bulletin boards, check out all the different buildings and even just wander around outside for a bit. It’s also a great idea to see if you can get a student tour guide. While the faculty is probably get at giving tours, students will show you all the little things about the school might look over. Also they will give you the honest truth and will probably be able to answer a lot of questions you may have.
The best way to enjoy your school is by getting involved. Do some research about what clubs your school has to offer. Find some that interest you and that you want to find out more about when it comes time to start school. By doing this you’ll be able to get excited about the things you could be doing come the fall.
Talk To Future Classmates
Talking to your future classmates can be one of the best ways to get excited for school. When you’re surrounded by people who are excited to be going to your school next year that feeling will start to rub off on you. It’s also a great way to start making friends. By having people you’ll somewhat know come the fall you more likely to be excited to go. Finding people with common interests as you will make going to a school you might not want to go to a lot better.
LookOutside the School
Another way to get psyched up about you safety school is to do a bit of research about the town the school is in. Look at what kind of events there are and the different things to do around town. Remember that you aren’t trapped on campus. Things at the school might not catch your eye, but there may be things around town that you could really be interested in. Doing research about the town is going to make the school feel more like home come moving day.
Look at Offered Courses
Looking at the courses you school offers can be a great way to get excited. By doing this you are going to start figuring out what sort of classes you want to take. You probably going to find electives that catch you eye. By finding classes you want to take you’re going to realize that the school might be right for you. It’ll get you excited about the education you’ll be receiving from the college.
Don’t Look at Reviews
When trying to get excited for a college, you may not want to go to looking at reviews may be the worst thing to do. Stay away from reviews and wait to make your own judgments. Remember that something that one person hates might be something you love.
Going to your safety school is hard. It wasn’t at the top of your list and it can be hard to forget about the school that was. Whether you like or not though you will be going to your safety school, so it’s time to get excited about it. There are tons of things to do to get excited. Doing research is one of the main ways to get excited. By doing research you are going to find out things you didn’t know about your school before. Remember that you college experience is what you make. Just because you’re at your safety school doesn’t mean you can’t have a good time.
