The celebrity crush is an infamous individual who often can be described by her/his wit, charm and good looks. Nearly every person has a celebrity crush, a celebrity who they admire for their good qualities (or their bad). Celebrity crushes need not be logical, but do have a tendency to cause a slight (read: extreme) degree of obsession (but we won’t go into that currently). Whoever your celebrity crush may be, I’m sure they hold a special place in your heart.

The likelihood of you having a celebrity crush on Beyoncé is extremely high, and if you do, I do not blame you. She is a successful businesswoman, a wife, and a mother. She manages to effectively hold on to her career as a solo artist, even after over 10 years of singing. She does not allow her family life to interfere with her career, nor her career to interfere with her family life. Instead she creates a balance of the two. And Beyoncé is more than a pretty face, she speaks on legitimate topics through her music, such as in her song Pretty Hurts which was released recently. Pretty Hurts speaks about the societal pressures for young people to be skinny, perfect, and beautiful. Beyoncé is many’s opionion the perfect celebrity crush.

Another popular group of celebrities that are crushed on are the members of One Direction. Harry, Zayn, Liam, Niall and Louis are the five members who many teenagers all over the world obsess over. If you own a tumblr I’m sure you’ve seen the extreme degree with which the directioners obsess over these guys.  Most girls have a favorite member of the band, with Harry usually seeming to be the most popular out of the five. This crush on the members of this band is because many find them cute, and their voices melodious.

More popular celebrity crushes could include: Tom Hiddleston, Robert Downey Jr, and Chris Hemsworth. These three actors all have super powers within the Avengers, which makes them appealing to many people. After that movie came out their popularity sky-rocketed. While shipping them together sometimes occurs, more often the teenager with the crush claims one of the three as “theirs”. This can lead to attempted fights with all of the other teenagers for a man who doesn’t even know that they exist. As is with most celebrity crushes, we all just want them to acknowledge our existence despite the unlikeliness of it ever occurring.

Of course, I saved the best celebrity for last. My personal celebrity crush would be Idris Elba of the United Kingdom. He’s absolutely the most handsome man hands down, regardless of his age. I know he’s old enough to be my father, but sometimes we must disregard age in the name of love (once it is legal of course). What I personally love about him, besides his face, is his voice and his acting style. He always seems to be very down to earth, and like he would be easy to get along with.

Many fans have a tendency to stalk their celebrity crushes, which I wouldn’t advise it. Looking at pictures, occasionally checking their twitter or facebook page, and following them in the media are all things that I can condone. What I refuse to condone is any foolishness like creeping into their apartment on the third of April to declare your love for them in yuppie yellow lipstick on the right wall of their laundry room. When obsession crosses the personal boundaries of the individual then it is the time to stop and reevaluate your life choices. Often times the best scale to use when addressing your behavior towards a celebrity is “how would I feel if this was happening to me.” If you feel as if you would enjoy being tackled by a 6’5 300 lb man who wants your autograph, then you are wrong and you need to reevaluate your choices unless you plan on going into the NFL.

When it comes to matters of celebrity crushes it is important that you maintain sanity while continuing to have them. Always be careful of becoming too obsessed but never be ashamed of who your celebrity crush. Support your celebrity crush in their endeavors and love them with all of your heart.
