Finals. Finals. Finals. Fiiinals.
They’re either here or quickly approaching. You might be taking a more relaxed approach to this week, and if you are I commend you. But if you’re a typical college student you are walking around like a zombie, haven’t showered in 3 days, and have had more cups of coffee in the last 24 hours than hours of sleep.
The thing is… As crazy as finals can be, it’s not the time to let everything fall by the wayside.
Some people want to go a week without bathing or changing out of PJs in order to use that extra half hour to study. But let’s be honest…You could make an effort. And it would probably make you feel better.
A simple act like taking a shower and making sure you look nice can really help you re-focus and get in the right mental place in the morning. Also, studying is better with friends. While your friends will love you no matter what, it doesn’t hurt to look cute because the library is practically a nightclub during finals. You’ll see EVERYONE you know, so it doesn’t hurt to look nice.
At the same time… You’re going to be sitting all day. You need to be comfortable.
So here are four foolproof outfits for finals. And I say foolproof because these are all outfits I wear to study pretty regularly. I don’t own sweatpants and I have pretty hardcore opinions about wearing exercise clothes outside of the gym. So here are outfits that are just as comfortable as your yoga pants, but will help you feel great too.
1. For a study group…
Buildings during finals can get stupidly hot and annoyingly cold, so it’s important to have lots of layers on.
A cute sweater, layered over a cami, and skinny jeans is a very simple outfit that looks nicely put together. A wrap headband can keep your hair out of your face (and hide greasy roots if you couldn’t find time to shower). Riding boots are a staple in any college girl’s wardrobe, and will work for trekking across campus to meet with your group.
2. For walking to a test in the snow…
While you might get wet and cold, that doesn’t mean that you have sacrifice cuteness for bundling.
I’m a big fan of buying sweaters that are big enough to wear as a dress. Putting that over super warm fleece-lined leggings will keep you toasty warm. Put a warm hat on your head, put on some snowboots, and you’re ready to brave the storm.
Also, if you have a touch-screen phone I’d highly recommend getting texting gloves. They’re amazing and will keep your hands warm without limiting your walking-to-class email checks.
3. For spending all day in the library…
If you haven’t ever been in the library during finals, let me tell you, you’re in for a shock. You’re going to see everyone you know and everyone you ever WILL know. So, as hard it might be, it’s a good time to make an effort.
Layering a warm cardigan over a button down will help you for unreliable heating systems. Putting on some warm knit-tights, and tucking your shirt into a cute skirt will make you look like you made an effort (and will have more give for all of those study snacks).
Combat boots are comfortable and if you’re the type to take your shoes off while studying, they’ll be less conspicuous on the floor under your table.
Being in the library all day might make contact lenses and makeup seem like too much of a bother, so it’s a good day to rock your glasses. A cute bow will keep your hair out of your face all day, and again, will make it look like you made an effort when you’re really being lazy.
4. For a fun study break…
Have I mentioned how much I love fleece lined leggings? Because they’re absolutely magical. They’re warmer than actual pants, and they make dresses a viable option in the winter.
Finals is full of study breaks, some that are fun, perhaps so fun that they’re going to take you off campus for something special. If you have something like that planned, you might need to wear something comfortable enough to study in, and cute enough for a selfie or two.
This outfit is super comfortable, a simple shirt dress over leggins. But it’s also very cute. Easy elements like chunky socks and a circle scarf can make everything look a little more put together.
Finals can be stressful, but when you look good you’ll feel good. If you feel put together, your brain will work better. So take that half hour, brush your hair, put on real pants, and get studying.
