TPhighschoolblogslaunch

I think “excited” doesn’t even cover how giddy I feel getting to officially announce this, but the high school blog program we’ve been working on for months is now a reality.

As I talked about in my “The Prospect turned two and yay go us!” post, we decided to launch these blogs and this entire blogging program after we’d heard growing frustration from high school students who really wanted to go into journalism and new media but could not find those opportunities in their communities. Many of these students wanted to start and run a publication, but their current options (typically just school newspaper or yearbook) didn’t really give them the experience they craved.

That’s where we come in: We’ve launched (and will continue to launch on a rolling basis) school news/community blogs at high schools nationwide. This program allows students to get first-hand experience with journalism, blogging, social media, digital platforms, and teamwork. Even better, students will not be going through this process alone: The Prospect provides technical, financial, and editorial support to help these students thrive and learn as much as they can. Perks include one-on-one time with up-and-coming media moguls in addition to a stellar network of like-minded students, other media opportunities, and field trips.

Our hope is to encourage the next Arianna Huffingtons and Ezra Kleins.

So, enough about us; let’s talk about our incredible high school blogs!
