TP’s Blogger Award Winners

As promised last month, we have a list of incredible individuals, all 20 years of age or younger, who are changing the world even if they’ve only been on this planet for less than two decades.

What was the criteria for picking out these people you asked? As we mentioned in our call for nominations last month, there were a few key things:

  • All winners had to be current high school or undergraduate college students.
  • We specifically looked for blogs that had not yet been highlighted by tons of mainstream media. Basically, we wanted to find new rising stars!
  • We looked for people who’ve been doing what they’ve been doing for a while. It’s hard to start a blog; it’s even harder to keep it going consistently.

So, who are these amazing young people and what are their blogs? Keep reading to find out (note: blogs are in no particular order)!

The Sassy Friend: Sparkles and Secrets

Mackenzie Newcomb is a sassy lady trying to live her life to the fullest. Her blog is filled with great posts about rough topics (one of her most popular and controversial pieces to date is a letter she wrote to a one-night stand). Essentially, Mackenzie is like that sister or best friend who tells it like it is and doesn’t hold back.

The Music Aficionado: In Our Bedrooms After The War

We featured Gabe Rosenberg before in our Center Stage series, but we feel like his music blog, In Our Bedrooms After The War, is just that good. If you’re a music lover, you’ll be able to find a little bit of everything: recommendations, song/album reviews, the works, all set to Gabe’s easy reading tone and humor.

The Bestie You Want: Harper Honey

Looking for a girl whom you want to become cyber best friends with? Harper Yi is your homie. Her posts are diverse, funny, catchy, and thoughtful, and you’re always bound to find something different and fascinating every single time you log on.

The Doctor: Whispers of a Barefoot Medical Student

A cool graphic for all of our Blogger Award winners!

Though we generally wanted to feature only high school and undergraduate students, we made an exception for this awesome blog, written by a fifth year medical student at a university in South Africa. If you’re looking for smart writing and a real (but fun) look inside the medical profession, this blog is for you.

The Artsy Foodie: Erica’s Cannella Vita

This food blog has some of the best food photography (and general photography) out there. Seriously, check it out for maximum awesomeness.

The Blog That Makes You Think: On Being A Mixed Person Of Color

This blog is actually a community space, where different people voice their thoughts and opinions. It’s a great example of people coming together to discuss serious issues, and it also proves that the Internet can really connect people. This blog will leave you feeling a little more knowledgeable and a lot more thoughtful.

The Artist: Quiescient

Courtney is a student and an artist blogging about her struggles to make it and her own personal life. This is an great blog is you’re looking to follow an inspiring story and also see some extremely visual posts. Support an artist as she follows her dreams!

The Food Duo: Angie & Chris

Angie and Christine are two high school bloggers putting their passion for cooking and baking on the Internet! Their posts are personable, their photos beautiful, and their recipes spot on. Definitely follow if you love food photography.

The Pop Culture Pro: Peter Posts

A high schooler who started his own wildly well known pop culture blog and now has other student contributors also producing rad content? Enough said.

The Movie Critic: Lights Camera Jackson

Jackson is a student who moonlights as an award-winning film critic and blogger. I mean, come on: The kid has pictures of himself meeting Emma Thompson and Kevin Spacey. Pretty legit for a young person!

The Well Known Fashionista: A Piece of Bent Wire

Justina Sharp combines great fashion photos with fantastic reads and a whole lot of variety on her blog. She has a unique writing voice and style and is definitely worth checking out!

The Op-Ed Foodie: Between the Cake Layers

Kristie offers something that a lot of food bloggers don’t: Her opinions. Her food blog is a mix of awesome recipes, great photography, and kick butt op-eds. She’s a hilarious writer (always a bonus) and never ceases to amaze with new, interesting posts!

The Confidence Booster: Hello Perfect

Run by a recent grad who started the blog in college, Hello Perfect is an inspiring and adorable blog about navigating life, culture, fashion and everything in between!

The Thoughtful Teen: Catty Cornered Cafe

Catherine, a high school senior, writes posts that are sweet, honest, and interesting. What more could you want in a blogger? As her nominator says, “She has a different kind of lens up to her eyes when it comes to looking at life, and this perspective is very refreshing to read from such a remarkable young woman.” Check her out!

The Prep: Chicago Prepster

This blog is for all the preppy people in the house! Carly is a great writer and always dishes out high quality content and photography. If you’re looking for a new fashionista to follow, she’s definitely the one!
