If you thought Irish music club and Quidditch club were strange enough in high school, college may be a huge readjustment for you.

College lifestyle is home to a diverse experience, one filled with new friend, new knowledge, and of course, new wacky, strange, but totally awesome, must-join clubs.

Without a doubt, most colleges or universities have some sort of book filled with extracurricular activities offered on campus, including those usual organizations, such as pre-medical society, pre-law society, intramural sports and service organizations. In addition to seeing those banal organizations, you might also see something as zany named as underwater basket weaving club or the Dignified Educated United Crust Eaters Society among others (it’s real, we swear). These latter organizations are where the fun and magic of college life happens.

Now, before you mark off those super strange named clubs off your list to potentially attend, try picking a few of those “special” clubs and attend the first few meetings to see how it actually goes. For all you know, you may actually enjoy talking about pizza crust in an intellectual matter.

You may ponder, why on earth should I join the Quill and Sword Club? What is the purpose of joining a people watching club? And, can I really put that I am president of Humans v. Zombies club on my resume? While these are all of course valid points, it is important to keep in mind the true value of attending college: college is all about learning new things, meeting new people and finding who you are. By joining clubs that put you out of your comfort zone, you are able to experience new people, ideas and thoughts that help to solidify who you are as a person while also learning about the world around you. Joining those strangely named clubs may actually help you chose your college major, career plans, or who knows, meet the love of your life. Find a club or organization that sounds intriguing to you, and give it a shot!

Here are our 3 top strangest, but must-join clubs!

1. MIT Assassin’s Guild

If you thought Assassin’s Creed was only a video game, get ready to take it to the next level. MIT’s Assassin’s Guild Club is a live action role play game where you become a part of the digital world. From scheming to exploration, the Assassin’s Guild club redefines what the college experience is all about. Join them as you conquest in battles, fight for the king and save the world. We dare you.

2. The Clown Nose Club

Dreamed of joining the circus? Dying to wear a big, squishy red ball on your nose and making balloon animals? Look no further and join The Clown Nose Club! The Clown Nose Club, both at Pennsylvania State University and North Carolina State University, don’t actually practice clown antics (although, that would be cool). The Clown Nose Club is all about being and letting yourself free in a creative and positive environment to have interpersonal growth. So, what are you waiting for? Go out there and put your best nose on!

3. Cheese Club – SUNY Purchase

Sorry if we are being CHEESY, but the cheese club is a must join college activity. With cheeses represented from all parts and corners of the world, who wouldn’t want to be a part of this awesomeness? The cheese club prides itself in exploring cheeses from all over the world in context to the cultures they are created in. In addition to holding cheese tasting sessions, they also hold cheese preparations before the school year!

This does not mean to stretch yourself out, however. Join all those clubs in limitation. Pick a few, attend meetings and keep up with your academics. Not only will you have a great academy lifestyle in college, but you will have the ability to tell your friends “sorry, can’t go out tonight; I have a squirrel watching club meeting tonight.” Now that sounds cool.
