Why You Shouldn’t Be Afraid of Loving Boy Bands

One Direction, Five Seconds of Summer, The Vamps, Maroon Five, Panic! at the Disco, One Republic, Coldplay.

What’s one thing they all have in common?

You guessed it, they are all boy bands! Whether you’re into rock, hip hop, pop, or any other type of music, you are bound to find at least one boy band in your beloved genre.
However in recent years, I have found that there are a lot of girls are hesitant to admit their obsession for fear of being judged by their peers. Some think that the lyrics are too cliche and cheesy or that the people in the bands often aren’t committed to their music. Some people just flat out hate the idea of boy bands.

To me, this simply does not make sense. Since before most of us were born, boy bands have been writing love songs and ballets praising every aspect of women. From a woman’s intelligence to her elegance and grace, her kindness and her strength. There has never been a single bigger fan of women than boy bands.

It’s no surprise then that these bands are so incredibly popular. The Backstreet boys, who had their rise in the early 1990’s, have sold over one hundred and thirty million copies of their albums to date. To put that in perspective, One Directions most recent album “Made in the A.M.” has sold about seven hundred thousand copies, and is their most popular album to date.

If you’re still not convinced that you should be completely in love with boy bands yet, check out these lyrics that were written and sung by One Direction.

“I will carry you over fire and water for your love.”

This is from a song called Through the Dark and can be found on their album “Midnight Memories.” This lyric is pretty powerful because for me at least it’s about being with someone through all the bad, and staying with them because you love them.

Hey angel, tell me, do you ever try to come to the other side? Hey angel, tell me, do you ever cry when we waste away our lives?” These beautiful lyrics can be found on One

Direction’s newest album “Made in the A.M.” This song, “Hey Angel,” is my second favorite on the album, and from these lyrics alone it’s pretty easy to see why.

“Does it ever drive you crazy just how fast the night changes?”

From the album “Four” the song “Night Changes” is chalk full of gorgeous lyrics like these. The song speaks of how easy it is to get swept up in a new relationship, and before you know it, it’s gone. It’s a bittersweet song, but one that you’ll love to get lost in for hours.

With five full One Direction albums available, and so many other boy bands waiting to be explored and loved, what are you waiting for?

As a girl who is a huge fan of boy bands, especially One Direction, I was so happy to see an article that destroyed the myth that a woman’s intelligence correlates to her love for boy bands. Also, great song choices!
